High Voltage Connections

Battery

AC

DC-DC Converter

Just connect the charger to more than about 200V DC and provide ground and 12v to the power, enable, and sense lines and it provides 14v to charge up your 12v system.

Charging process

Charging is controlled by CANbus messages and a 1khz square wave received on the control pilot line. AC must obviously also be present.

Once the AC is connected and the square wave present, the charger requires the following messages

Every 1ms: 0x285 0x00 0x00 0xB6 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00

Every 10ms: 0x00 0x4A 0x10 0x25 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00

It is the third byte of this second message that sets the charge current. 0x10 is equivalent to ~1.4A. 0x50 is around 8A.
