In this episode of DIY EV chat I speak to stalwart of the EV conversion scene, Paul Compton, a man with an incredible car history and some fantastic projects underway. We talk about EV racing in the US (check out the YouTube clip below), taking on other people’s dodgy conversions, and his upcoming Lotus projects. And we cover the restoration of his ground-breaking electric VW/Karmann Scirocco.

If you want to follow those projects, you can find Paul’s YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/EVguru

Here’s a bit of Paul’s car history:

“Long before the Lowcost/Haynes Roadster there was the JC Locust”
“The Moss Monaco”
“Moss Roadster ‘Sprint'”
“A pile of cheap steel from the car breakers, Triumph Herald suspension
and an abandoned Honda Benly 185 (one of my Fiat X1/9s lurking to the
left of shot)”
“The Scirocco before I bought it back”
And the Scirocco in its glory days – in Top Gear magazine no less!
“The Cagiva Freccia 125 I built back in about 2006.
